US: DeLay Trial in Austin Begins with Jury Selection Tomorrow
Publicado el Oct 25, 2010

Jury selection is expected to begin tomorrow in the case against former US House Majority leader and powerful Texas Republican Tom DeLay. The Austin American Statesman reports that he is charged with violating state campaign laws and money laundering, after 190-thousand dollars in corporate campaign contributions were made to a PAC called Texans for a Republican Majority. But state law doesn’t allow corporate contributions like that, so that money was turned over to the Republican National Committee, who just weeks later, turned around and issued large checks to several key Republicans seeking election and reelection in Texas, totaling 190-thousand dollars in contributions. And that transaction is at the heart of the charges against DeLay. Again, jury selection in his trial is expected to begin tomorrow in Travis County District Court.
